Go-To Appetizers Part One: Easy Baked Brie

I’m not exactly sure where this recipe originated in my life. In fact, it’s so simple that it’s hard for me to even call it a recipe.  I can, however, tell you this absolutely fantastic, gooey, delicious, creamy mix of sweet and savory is a crowd-pleasing hit. This dish is one of my two go-to party appetizers. The other one is my Aunt Betsy’s artichoke dip.

This brie would work well with other types of sweet jams or nuts, but my favorite version is with Organic Adriatic Fig Spread, which is available at Whole Foods and other markets. I just love the fig flavor with the cheese. I’ve also used both salted and unsalted pecan halves and it works great both ways.

Serve with crusty baguette slices and hearty crackers, and your guests will go seriously crazy.

Baked Brie

Serves 8

  • 1 14-16 ounce wheel of Brie
  • 1 ½ ounces pecan halves
  • 4 tbsp fig spread

Preheat oven to 350°F with rack in middle. Remove brie from wrapping and place in oven-proof dish or small skillet. Slather fig spread on top of brie and sprinkle liberally with pecans. Bake for 30 minutes or until brie is very melted (the sides should swell outward) and pecans are toasted. Serve with toasted baguettes slices.
